Shehbaz Sharif, who is set to take over as Pakistan’s prime minister, called for talks on Kashmir with PM Modi.
Shehbaz Sharif is likely be sworn in as Pakistan’s 23rd prime minister today.
Pakistan Prime Minister-elect Shehbaz Sharif spoke of Kashmir and said India and Pakistan should jointly resolve the issues so that poverty can be tackled. In his address, Sharif said, “I ask Prime Minister Modi to come and talk on Kashmir. People are suffering from poverty both sides. We should talk with each other.”
The PML-N leader also reiterated his commitment to resolve the Kashmir issue in the light of UN resolutions and said a better relationship with India cannot happen till a peaceful solution is found.

“Previous [Imran Khan] government failed to take any concrete action after revocation of Article 370 in Kashmir. We want a better relationship with India, but it can’t happen till a peaceful solution to Kashmir issue is reached. We can’t leave them to bleed, we’ll continue our moral and diplomatic support to Kashmiri people. My message to PM Modi is to resolve the issue as per the wishes of Kashmiri people, to eradicate their plight and fight against their poverty,” he added.
He also lauded China-Pakistan relations and said CPEC will move forward at full speed and vowed to improve ties with countries such as Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the UAE.
Shehbaz Sharif was elected unopposed as the PM of Pakistan, substituting for Imran Khan for about 15 months until the next general elections. Imran Khan was ousted from office as Pakistan’s Prime Minister on Saturday after losing a no-confidence vote in the national assembly.
