Orange alert in 18 districts of Punjab today: Heavy rain warning; Rivers and canals above danger mark, many villages evacuated

Around 200 acres of crops have been submerged in water due to the breach in the canal wall in Jandiala Guru.

There are chances of heavy rains in Punjab even today. Orange alert has been issued for East Malwa till 9.30 am on Monday, while yellow alert has been issued for Doaba, under which it will rain heavily in the coming few hours.

At the same time, the rivers and canals in the state are flowing above the danger mark. Due to this, 15 to 20 villages situated around the Sutlej river have been evacuated. Holiday has been declared for schools in 2 cities of Jalandhar. Around 200 acres of crops have been submerged in water due to the breach of canal wall in the area around Bandala in Jandiala Guru.

Warning of rain in these districts
According to the information received from the Meteorological Department, due to rain in Sangrur, Dhuri, Malerkotla, Samana, Patiala, Nabha, Rajpura, Samrala, Rupnagar, Balachaur, Ludhiana West, Phillaur, Phagwara, Nawanshahr, Anandpur Sahib, Garhshankar, Nangal, Hoshiarpur. Along with this, there is a possibility of strong winds.

Rain may also occur in Jalandhar, Dhuri, Malerkotla, Samana, Nabha, Ludhiana East, Phillaur, Phagwara, Jalandhar-1, Nawanshahr, Garhshankar, Hoshiarpur. The Meteorological Department has not issued any alert for today in Majha and West Malwa. It was a sunny morning in the border areas of Amritsar, Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Tarn Taran and Malwa.

There are chances of sunshine in Majha, Doaba and West Malwa today, Tuesday and Wednesday. It will be cloudy in between, but there are less chances of rain, due to which the day temperature will rise.

The temperature which was running close to 30 degrees now, may go beyond 36 degrees in the coming 2 days, due to which the humidity will also increase. Talking about East Malwa, there are chances of respite from rain on Thursday, but it may rain again from Friday.

The rain caused havoc in Chandigarh, Kharar, SBS Nagar, but today there are chances of getting relief from it. Yellow alert has been issued in Himachal as well, that means the rain there will also be under control. With the decrease in rains, the relief work in the flood-affected areas of the state will speed up.

In the past, along the banks of Sutlej river, in Patiala, Mohali, Anandpur Sahib, Fatehgarh Sahib and breaching of canals in Jandiala Guru, Bandala, Abohar, fields have been badly damaged due to rise in water level. The water level on the banks of canals and rivers will also reduce and people will get relief.
