Till now only men used to get permanent shortage
Before the Supreme Court’s decision, only men who had served in the Short Service Commission (SSC) for 14 years in the Army were getting the option of permanent commission, but women were not entitled to this. On the other hand, women officers are getting permanent commission in the Air Force and Navy. Women can get entry in the Army Service Corps, Ordnance, Education Corps, Advocate General, Engineer, Signal, Intelligence and Electric-Mechanical Engineering branches during the short service commission. They are not given the opportunity to work in the Combat Services like Infantry, Armed, Artillery and Mechanized Infantry. However, these rules do not apply to the Medical Corps and Nursing Services. In these women get permanent commission. She has also reached the rank of lieutenant general.

More than 1600 women out of 43 thousand officers
This year, after several orders of the Supreme Court, the number of women officers who got permanent commission in the army has increased to 424. At the same time, according to a report, there are about 43,000 officers in the Indian Army, out of which 1,653 are women. Recently, the Border Roads Organization (BRO) has appointed a woman army officer as the officer commanding for the first time for its 75 road construction company in Uttarakhand. Major Aina Rana is the first Indian Army Engineer officer to command a road construction company. Under her are the three platoon commanders – Captain Anjana, AEE (Civil) Bhavna Joshi and AEE (Civil) Vishnumaya are women officers. Even before this, many women have reached high positions in the Air Force, Navy. In May this year, for the first time, 83 women were recruited into the army as jawans.

7 thousand women against 12 lakh men in the Indian Army

The ratio of women to men is only 0.56 percent. On the other hand, if we talk about the Indian Air Force, then there are about 1.5 lakh men in it. At the same time, the number of women is only 1600. Here the ratio sits a little more than 1 percent. Apart from this, the number of men in the Indian Navy is ten thousand, while the number of women is only 700. The percentage of women in this force is 6.5.

A total of 9118 women officers in the three services
In all, there are about 9,118 women in the three armies of India. The number of women in the three armies of India has increased in 2020 as compared to 2019.
