The country has suffered a major setback in the Commonwealth Games to be held in 2026. Wrestling has been dropped from the list of 17 sports of the CWG 2026 to be held in Victoria, Australia. Its biggest loss will be to Haryana. Till now, the players who have won the most medals in wrestling i.e. wrestling are from Haryana. However, after 8 years, the shooting has been given a place in the list.

India had won 12 (6 gold, 1 silver, 5 bronze) medals in wrestling at the Birmingham Games. The game has featured in four consecutive games since 2010. All of them were wrestlers from Haryana. Those who are disappointed with this game.

The wrestlers of Haryana have said that India should take up the issue with the international forum and the Commonwealth Games Federation from a strategic point of view. India has done well in the Commonwealth Games in both shooting and wrestling. Shooting in 2022 and now wrestling in 2026 is a big blow to the campaign of the Indian sports team.

Events from March 17 to 29
The upcoming Commonwealth Games will be held from 17 to 29 March (2026) in Australia’s Melbourne, Geelong, Bendigo, Ballarat and Gippsland, among other cities and regional centres. Its opening ceremony will take place at the famous Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
