Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu issued a clarification that there is no hike in the exam fee for Class 10 exam under the Secondary Education Board of Assam (SEBA)

The Education Minister of Assam, Ranoj Pegu, has tweeted that the reports of an increase in exam fees for the 10th-grade exams conducted by the Secondary Education Board of Assam (SEBA) are untrue and without foundation. He clarified that there has been no change in the examination fee structure for class 10 just like the previous year.

According to a post on “X,” formerly known as Twitter,  the education minister shared that the fees for the HSLC examination are the same as last year. The fee breakdown for the class 10 exams is as follows: SEBA fee- Rs. 700, Centre fee – Rs. 350, and practical exam fee – Rs. 150, making the total fee amount to Rs. 1200. Importantly, all students falling under the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category are exempted from paying the fees.

Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, shared that starting in the academic year 2024, class 10 students won’t have board exams. Instead, Madhyamik level will undergo class-level assessments. However, Assam’s Higher Secondary (HS) exams for class 12 will continue as usual. The state plans to establish a new, unified educational board for Assam, combining the existing separate boards. This decision is in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP 2020).

The class 10 exams in Assam are usually organized by the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA), while class 12 board exams are typically administered by the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC). However, there is now a plan to combine these two state boards into one entity.

The Education Minister’s quick clarification is meant to clear up any confusion or worries among students, parents, and people involved in education. Assam is still dedicated to providing affordable and easily accessible education, making sure that no eligible student is discouraged from taking the HSLC examination because of incorrect reports about increased fees.

As the exams are getting closer, students can be confident that the fees for the upcoming HSLC examination will be the same as last year. This helps create a supportive environment for learning and achieving excellence in education.

Minister Pegu’s proactive approach in dealing with this matter shows that the government is committed to transparency and providing accurate information, especially when it comes to important education and student-related issues.
