NGT Order: Bengal failed in waste management, 3500 crore fine has been collected by the government

The West Bengal government suffered a big blow in the National Green Tribunal. In all, the state government submitted 3500 crore compensation. The state government has failed in solid waste management and because of that the government was ordered to pay a huge amount of compensation. The government followed that order.

The state government told the green bench that the state urban development department and the municipal department have created two accounts. 3500 crores have been deposited through that account.

Meanwhile, on September 1 this year, the NGT directed that a certain amount of money should be deposited. Because there is a huge gap in solid and solid waste management.

State Chief Secretary Harekrishna Dwivedi submitted an information to the NGT. The data mentioned that around 13,469 tonnes of solid waste is generated in West Bengal every day. Out of that, about 5994 tonnes of solid waste is segregated every day. Then 3,047 tonnes of waste is processed daily. And in that regard 10,422 tons of solid waste is left virtually untreated every day.

The NGT bench then said that the waste left without this treatment is one of the causes of pollution. This causes air, water and land pollution. Due to this, there is a dire impact on the environment and public health. After that, it was ordered that effective measures should be taken in the management of this waste within the next 6 months.

A senior official of the government said that the amount will be used as per the instructions of the Chief Secretary as per the instructions of the NGT.

It has been directed to keep an eye on the containment of untreated liquid waste. His plan and execution has been ordered within three days. It has also been directed that additional compensation should be paid in case of violation of this rule.

According to the NGT order, the state will have to pay Rs 2,980 crore as compensation for failure in liquid waste management. Roughly 3000 crores in total compensation was ordered. It was also directed to pay compensation of at least 500 crore rupees if this process fails again.

This time it has been ordered to deposit 3500 crore rupees as compensation.
