Gupkar spokesperson Tarigami termed the Delimitation Commission proposal as divisive.

The leaders of the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration, engaged in saving political land in Jammu and Kashmir, will start a barricade from the new year. Gupkar has made this announcement to oppose the proposal of the Delimitation Commission to increase 6 assembly seats in Jammu division and 1 assembly seat in Kashmir division. On Tuesday, a meeting of the Alliance was held at Dr. Farooq Abdullah’s house in Jammu to chalk out a political strategy in the situation regarding the delimitation.

PDP President Mehbooba Mufti, Awami National Conference leader Muzaffar Ahmed Shah, CPI(M) leader Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami, National Conference MP Hasnain Masoodi and PDP leader Dr Mehboob Baig were also present. After the meeting, Alliance spokesperson Tarigami said that we have decided that on January 1 in the new year, we will conduct a peaceful protest in Srinagar against the proposal of the Delimitation Commission. We do not want any conflict under any circumstances. Will not allow it to be implemented.

We will continue to raise our voice for the basic rights of the people. After attending the meeting of the Delimitation Commission, the three members of the National Conference have made it clear that they will not sign the proposal of the Delimitation Commission and the draft report prepared at any cost. Rejecting the proposal outright, party leader and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah wrote on social media, his party does not accept the proposal of the Delimitation Commission. This is extremely disappointing. PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti has said that the Delimitation Commission is working only for the political interests of the BJP.

Proposal is divisive as it is not based on 2011 census: Tarigami

Gupkar spokesperson Tarigami termed the Delimitation Commission proposal as divisive. He said that such a proposal is neither in the interest of the people of Jammu and Kashmir nor Ladakh. Are Gupkar leaders against the proposal to increase 6 seats in Jammu division? In response to this question, Tarigami said that Jammu is ours. We are also the representatives of the people of Jammu, but there must be some criteria behind the proposal to increase the seats.

The commission was supposed to take this decision according to the 2011 census data, but it did not happen. If there was a problem with those figures, then we had given the option to wait for the nationwide census before starting this process here. Targeting the BJP, the Gupkar spokesperson said why the central government did not heed our appeal. Why is the Center hurrying?

BJP said – the political stature of Jammu will increase
BJP has welcomed the proposal of the Delimitation Commission. He said that according to the proposal of the commission, if seats are distributed, then it will increase the political stature of Jammu division. For the first time, 9 seats will be reserved for Scheduled Tribes. With this, while one section of the people will get representation, other political parties will try their luck in the elections to woo the voters. There are speculations that at least 5 out of the 9 seats may be reserved in Jammu and 4 in the Kashmir Valley. Out of these, 2-2 seats can be reserved for Rajouri and Pooch and one seat for Reasi.
