Manish Sisodia is currently lodged in Tihar Jail in the liquor policy case. He was arrested by the CBI on 26 February.

The CBI has registered a new case against Manish Sisodia, the former Deputy CM of Delhi who is in jail in connection with the liquor policy. The case has been registered regarding alleged corruption in the Feedback Unit (FBU) of the Delhi government.

The CBI has claimed that a loss of Rs 36 lakh has been caused to the exchequer by illegally setting up and running the Feedback Unit.

The unit is also accused of spying on opposition party leaders, officials and members of the judiciary.

Unit formed in 2015, case happened in 2016

The feedback unit was formed by the Kejriwal government after coming to power in 2015. In 2016, KC Meena, an officer of the vigilance department, had complained about the FBU, after which the investigation started in the matter.

Only last month, the Ministry of Home Affairs had given permission to the CBI to register a case against Manish Sisodia in this case. The CBI says that the unit used to collect political information. 40% of the unit’s reports were about this.

Case filed against 7 people including Sisodia

In this case, apart from Sisodia, the then Vigilance Secretary Sukesh Kumar Jain, retired CISF DIG Rakesh Kumar Sinha, retired Joint Deputy Director of Intelligence Bureau Pradeep Kumar Punj, retired CISF Assistant Commandants Satish Khetrapal and Gopal Mohan were also booked under Prevention of Corruption Act. Case has been registered under.

The accused have been charged with several charges including dishonestly misappropriating property, criminal conspiracy and forgery to cheat.

Unit used to collect information and feedback

This unit was formed under the Vigilance Department of Delhi Government. At that time Vigilance Department was in charge of Manish Sisodia. This unit was done to collect information and feedback about the government departments and institutions coming under Delhi government. Its functions also included conducting sting operations and catching government officials red-handed.

According to media reports, CM Kejriwal had direct control over this unit. Most of the people working in it were retired officers from Intelligence Bureau and Central Paramilitary Force.
