Apple’s plan to bring a microLED display to the Apple Watch Ultra is very widely corroborated
The microLED display is expected to measure 2.12 inches, representing a 10 per cent increase compared to the current Apple Watch Ultra’s screen size.
The Cupertino-based tech giant Apple is reportedly planning to make major changes to the Watch Ultra. According to reports, MicroLED display technology will be the next major upgrade coming to the Apple Watch Ultra.
“The account known as ‘Instant Digital’ on Weibo claims that the next worthwhile upgrade for the Apple Watch Ultra users will be Apple’s custom microLED display technology, but the feature is not expected to launch next year,” MacRumors reported.
“The source was first to report the iPhone 14’s Yellow spring refresh, Spatial Video on the iPhone 15 Pro, and the Apple Watch Series 9’s minor refresh, as well as the only rumor claiming that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus would feature frosted back glass,” it added.

TrendForce has reported that Apple’s debut of its first microLED display on a new Apple Watch Ultra model is now anticipated for 2026, partly due to supply chain adjustments. This contrasts with previous reports that suggested a potential launch in 2025.

Also, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that the US-based iPhone maker is likely planning to bring custom microLED displays to the iPhone, iPad, and Mac after the technology debuts in a new version of the Apple Watch Ultra. He believes Apple’s long-term plan is to bring microLED displays to all of its key products.
Several reports from sources like DigiTimes, Nikkei Asia, and The Information have all hinted at Apple’s intentions to shift towards using custom microLED displays in various product lines. This strategic move aims to reduce Apple’s dependency on Samsung for display technology.
