Network of medical colleges should be expanded: Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot | Jaipur News – Times of India

JAIPUR: While addressing the virtual foundation laying ceremony of medical colleges in Nagaur and Alwar, chief minister Ashok Gehlot demanded medical colleges for JaloreRajsamand and Pratapgarh.
He also demanded to make the laws and rules more flexible for opening new medical colleges. In the wake of the Ukraine crisis and increasing population, he emphasised to expand the network of medical colleges by setting up both government and private medical colleges in every district.
Gehlot said that 30 districts have got medical colleges but still three districts are left out which includes Jalore, Rajsamand and Pratapgarh. He demanded from the Centre to approve medical colleges in these three districts too.
He said that during the UPA government, for the expansion of the medical college network, a scheme was formulated which was the establishment of new medical colleges attached with existing district referral hospital schemes. Under the scheme, the state got 23 new medical colleges. The NDA government continued the scheme and gave approvals for medical colleges across the country.
During the video conference, Gehlot said under the scheme, the Centre contributed 75% while the state gave 25%.
Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya said the Centre is making efforts to increase the number of medical colleges in the country. He said that new medical colleges not only boost medical education, but it also provides better healthcare facilities. He said in Rajasthan, the number of under-graduate and postgraduate seats in medical colleges is more than the average seats in the country.
