NEET PG: The draft regulations states that first round of central counselling will start on May 10 while state counselling will start on May 20, 2024

The National Medical Commission has released a draft schedule to conduct NEET PG in next academic year. In accordance with the schedule the examination will be held in March 2024. The Commission has also asked public comments on the draft posted on the website. Candidates can access the schedule from the official website, nmc.org.in.

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences, AIIMS Delhi, first announced that the National Exit Test (NExT), which is intended to replace the NEET PG test, will be held for the current MBBS batch the following year. On the recommendation of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, NMC decided to postpone the exam till further notice.

The draft of PGMER 2023’s fourth chapter discusses medical school admission and counseling. According to the postgraduate broad specialty admission timetable NMC has created, “As per NExT Regulation or in case admission is to be based on NEET-PG, then exam will be conducted in the month of March.” The NEET PG counseling procedure will begin in May and the new academic year (2024–2025) will start in July mentions the notification.

The yet-to-be implemented guidelines mentions the eligibility criteria for NEET PG 2024 examination. It mentions that eligibility to pursue a broad specialty post-graduate programme in Medicine will be on the basis of computation of the marks obtained in the common final year undergraduate examination.

ADMISSION AND COUNSELLING (State and Central)

It is also proposed to conduct a common counselling for

admission to Post-graduate courses in medicine for all medical institutions in India solely based on the merit list of respective exams. The draft regulations states that first round of central counselling will start on May 10 while state counselling will start on May 20, 2024. The second round of central counselling will start on June 1 on the other hand, state counselling round 2 will continue on June 11.

Mop up or third round for central counselling will start on June 20 while for state counselling, it will start on June 30. For the purpose of ensuring the above time-schedule, Saturday, Sunday or Holidays (except National Holiday) shall be treated as working days. It is also noted that in view the circumstances and exigencies, Post-Graduate Medical

Education Board may alter the number of rounds and schedule of counselling.

RESERVATION OF SEATS

The reservation of seats in medical colleges/institutions for

respective categories shall be as per applicable laws prevailing in States/Union Territories. An all India merit list as well as State-wise merit list of the eligible candidates shall be prepared on the basis of the marks obtained in NExT or NEET-PG and candidates shall be admitted to post-graduate courses from the said merit lists only
