Nearly Dozen Airlines Refund Rs 564 Lakh to 4.76 Lakh Passengers in July 2024 – News18

DGCA data points out that Indigo passengers have experienced the most inconvenience due to boarding denials, flight cancellation and flight delays by more than 2 hours

As many as 11 airlines operating domestic flights in the country have refunded about Rs 564 lakh on about 4.76 lakh passengers in the month of July. This amount was paid to passengers who were either denied boarding, whose flights were cancelled or whose flights were delayed by more than 2 hours.

According to the data of Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), passengers who have booked Indigo flights have faced the maximum inconvenience owing to the above three reasons.

In July, about 2,89,193 passengers who booked tickets on Indigo were either denied boarding, faced flight cancellation or delays. Among these, 36 passengers were denied boarding, while flights of 1,23,588 passengers were cancelled. 2,89,193 passengers travelling by Indigo flights had to face a delay of more than two hours.

According to DGCA data, Rs 3.45 lakh was spent by Indigo to pay refund to the 36 passengers who were denied boarding.

The next in line comes Air India. Around 68,743 passengers who had booked Air India flights had to face inconvenience because their boardings were either denied, or their flights were cancelled or they faced flight delays.

The DGCA figures show that the Air India has spent Rs 93.02 lakh on 822 passengers who were inconvenienced since they were denied boarding, Rs 75.77 lakh on passengers who faced flight cancellations and Rs 108.36 lakh on those who faced flight delays. Air India has spent a total of Rs 277.15 lakh to pay refunds to these aggrieved passengers.
