The first session of the 18th Lok Sabha will likely begin around June 15, with Narendra Modi, who will take oath on Sunday, as the newly elected Prime Minister for the third consecutive term. The first session will commence in the third week of June with the oath-taking by the newly elected candidates as members of the House and the process is likely to continue for 2 days, following which a new Speaker will also be elected.

Meanwhile, President Droupadi Murmu appointed Modi as the prime minister-designate on Friday after BJP chief J P Nadda handed her a letter on Modi’s election as the leader of the BJP Parliamentary Party and NDA leaders submitted their letters of support.

PM-designate Modi’s swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to take place on June 9 at the Rashtrapati Bhawan amid multi-layered security with five companies of paramilitary personnel, NSG commandoes, drones and snipers.

In the Lok Sabha 2024 election result, the BJP won 240 seats, falling short of the halfway mark in the 543-member lower House. Still, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) together won 293 seats, which is a comfortable majority mark.
