Victor Gao, spokesperson of the Chinese Communist Party, accused US senator Nancy Pelosi of destroying the trust between China and the US and said Pelosi and her family will be sanctioned over her visit to Taiwan.

“No one can deny that Nancy Pelosi is the third highest ranking US official, even though her designation is Speaker of the House of Representatives. From the Chinese perspective, such a higher-ranking official cannot be allowed to visit Taiwan. Otherwise, it will trigger huge consequences,” Gao told India Today.

“The US has let China down and destroyed trust. They need to suffer the consequences. Going forward, China and the US will find it more difficult to get along with each other because Nancy Pelosi managed to destroy trust between the US and China,” he added.

The strategic affairs expert further accused Pelosi of being a self-serving politician who hates China. Gao said Pelosi and her family will be sanctioned and barred from China or doing business with China.

“Nancy Pelosi disregarded China, US President Biden and the US Pentagon. So wait for the consequences to unfold. I think the consequences will be on several levels: 1) It will be against Pelosi and her delegation 2) They will be prohibited from entering China and they will be considered illegitimate because they want to separate Taiwan from China 3) The next level of sanctions will be against the US government,” Victor Gao said.

Gao also warned the US not to underestimate the military might of China and said nobody wants escalation as it could lead to a nuclear armageddon.

On Wednesday, China said it would take “strong and effective” countermeasures against the US and Taiwan for violating the One China policy. China views Taiwan as a breakaway province which will one day unite with it. Beijing has not ruled out the possible use of force to reunify the self-ruled island with the mainland.
