Brothers and sisters who got separated during the India-Pakistan partition met at Sri Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan on Wednesday. During this, both of them cried so bitterly that the eyes of the people present there also became moist. The two met after nearly 75 years. Amarjit Singh lives in Jalandhar, while his sister Kulsoom lives in Pakistan.

Singh reached Pakistan from the Attari-Wagah border to meet his sister. At the same time, Kulsoom came from Faisalabad with her son Shahzad Ahmed and other family members. Singh was separated from his family at the time of partition. His Muslim parents had migrated to Pakistan at the time of partition. Along with Amarjit Singh, a younger sister of his was also left in India, who has died.

Kulsoom said – often used to hear from mother about her siblings
Kulsoom, 65, said that her parents had left Jalandhar and immigrated to Pakistan in 1947. During this his brother and sister stayed there. Kulsoom was born in Pakistan itself. She always heard from her mother about her lost brother and sister. Whenever the mother remembered her missing children, she used to cry a lot. She told him that she did not expect that she would ever be able to meet her brother and sister.

Father’s friend gave brother’s information
Kulsoom told that a few years back Sardar Dara Singh, a friend of his father came to Pakistan from India and met him. The mother told him about her son and daughter lost in India and also gave the address of her village. Sardar Dara Singh visited his house in Padavan village and informed him that his son was alive, but the daughter had died.

Amarjeet Singh turned from Muslim to Sikh
Their son’s name is Amarjit Singh, who was adopted by a Sikh family in 1947. After getting information about his brother, Kulsoom contacted Singh on WhatsApp and decided to meet later. At the same time, Amarjit Singh said that when he first came to know that his real family is in Pakistan and is alive, he was very happy. He always wanted to meet his real sister and brothers.

Sunita Devi from Hoshiarpur went to Kartarpur with her family and met her relatives after 43 years.  At the time of partition, Sunita's father had remained in India and the rest of the family had gone to Pakistan.

He said that he will now come to Pakistan to spend time with his family. Along with this, he will also be taken to India, so that he can reunite with his Sikh family. Both the brothers and sisters also brought many gifts for each other. This is not the first time that the Kartarpur Corridor has reunited a family. Earlier in May, a woman born in a Sikh family, adopted and raised by a Muslim couple, met her brothers from India in Kartarpur.
