The incident took place in Keshaipur village of Hariharpara in Murshidabad. The woman from the village alleged that when she went to the local vegetable market last Thursday, a local youth grabbed her by the hand and pulled her. At the same time, various kinds of obscene gestures are made. Then the young man asked for the mobile number from the woman again. Returning home, the woman told the whole story to her family members and panchayat members. It is learned that the woman’s husband is out of work. After that an arbitration meeting was held in the village. According to the diagnosis of the arbitration meeting, the young man wearing a garland of shoes was taken around the area. The incident caused a stir as it spread on social media. Complainant’s statement, ‘- He offered me love. Also wanted my mobile number. As soon as the village foremen told them this, they gave it ‘Tight’
Police have already arrested several villagers, including the youth, in connection with the incident. However, no written complaint has been lodged in this regard, police said. The police, however, are investigating the whole matter. Human rights activists have become vocal in the incident of turning the young man around in a shoe chain. According to them, although this kind of work of the youth is objectionable, the treatment that has been done to him is not right.
