Mumbai’s air quality deteriorates to ‘poor’ category, AQI 228 | Mumbai News – Times of India

MUMBAI: After over two weeks of being moderate and satisfactory, Mumbai’s air category has turned poor once again. This indicates caution for Mumbaikars amid surging fresh Covid-19 cases.
According to SAFAR, Mumbai’s air quality index points that it is in the ‘poor’ category and is likely to remain the same for the next two days.
The overall AQI of Mumbai remained 228 throughout the day with Queued and Mazgaon showing the air quality in the ‘very poor’ category that can risk a rise in respiratory problems.
Malad, Andheri and BKC were among the major suburbs that showed poor air quality.
Poor air quality poses a risk for the elderly, while healthy people may also experience slight discomfort. The advisory suggested that people with heart or lung diseases, older adults and children should reduce longer or heavy exertion and outdoor activity.
In very poor air category areas, everyone is advised to reduce heavy exertion as there could be significant increase in respiratory problems.
