17 years ago, on 26 December 2004, the tsunami in the Indian Ocean caused great devastation. A tsunami wave of about 100 feet was raised after a terrible earthquake of 9.15 magnitude that hit the Indian Ocean. These tsunami waves caused massive destruction in India, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Myanmar, Madagascar, Maldives, Malaysia, Seychelles, Somalia, Tanzania and Kenya. In India alone, more than 12 thousand people died due to tsunami and more than 3 thousand people went missing. The country had suffered an economic loss of about 12 thousand crores. Tamil Nadu had the highest number of 8 thousand deaths. Apart from this, more than 3 thousand people died in Andaman and Nicobar, 599 in Puducherry, 177 in Kerala and 107 in Andhra Pradesh.
