Another engineering marvel is being built in Tamil Nadu. A new Pamban bridge is being built here at a cost of 560 crores. This bridge will be the first vertical lift railway sea bridge in the country. A two km long and 108 year old bridge is also working here. The new bridge is expected to be commissioned by the end of this year. The old bridge is single line and non electrified, while the new one will be double line and electrified. Trains from the old bridge can run at a speed of only 10 kmph, while the trains on the new bridge will run at a speed of 80 kmph. This bridge connects Mandapam and Rameswaram.
