The convoy of the country’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi stood in a very unsafe area for about 20 minutes on Wednesday. The place where the PM had to stop on the National Highway near Mudki inside Ferozepur district in Punjab is a Highly Sensitive Zone. The Indo-Pak International Border is just 49 kilometers away from here and tiffin bombs and other explosives have been found continuously in this area. In such a situation, the kind of arrangements that the Punjab Police should have made in view of the visit of the Prime Minister, they were not visible on the ground.

Firozpur is a very sensitive district of Punjab due to its proximity to the India-Pakistan International Border. The announcement of the Prime Minister’s rally here was made about a week and a half ago. On the other hand the whole of Punjab is on high alert after the recent bomb blasts in Ludhiana and Pathankot. The Jalalabad town where the blast took place on 15 September 2021 is also near Firozpur and the NIA investigation has made it clear that it was a terrorist attack.

Delivery of tiffin bombs in the same area

Gurmukh Singh Rode, who was arrested by the NIA for supplying tiffin bombs after the Jalalabad blasts, is a resident of Rode village in Moga district, which is the birthplace of Jarnail Singh Bhidranwale. Bhindranwale’s nephew and Lakhbir Singh Rode, a long-time advocate of Khalistan, who has taken refuge in Pakistan, is also from this area.

Lakhbir Singh Rode had delivered tiffin bombs from across the border through Gurmukh. Gurmukh had admitted before the central agencies that one or two tiffin bombs were delivered in the Ferozepur sector. In such a situation, after the information of PM’s rally, Punjab Police had enough time for preparations, but its counter intelligence department and other intelligence system failed completely.

Error on the route suggested by Punjab Police

After landing at Bathinda airport, the Prime Minister was to first reach Firozpur by helicopter. Since the helicopter could not take off since Wednesday morning due to bad weather, the Punjab Police suggested this route to reach By Road Ferozepur to the Special Protection Group (SPG), which is responsible for the security of the Prime Minister. The Punjab Police declared this route to be safe, but a big mistake was made on it.

Punjab Police did the rehearsal
After landing at Bathinda airport, the Prime Minister left for Ferozepur by road. His convoy passed through the Bathinda-Firozpur fourlane. Under the SPG protocol, the route used for the movement of the Prime Minister is checked in every way. The Punjab Police also held a rehearsal for the Prime Minister’s convoy on the Bathinda-Firozpur fourlane on Tuesday. Then everything was fine.

Everything is fine in the morning, after 12 o’clock disturbances

The Punjab government claims that 10,000 police personnel were deployed for the security of the Prime Minister. The Punjab Police also checked the Bathinda-Firozpur four lane on Wednesday morning and there was no blockage anywhere on the highway from 7 am to 9 am. After 12 noon, suddenly things started deteriorating and members of farmer organizations and mischievous elements managed to reach the highway. During this, the intelligence of the Punjab Police proved to be a complete failure.

It was the Prime Minister’s security squad that had taken the decision to go to Ferozepur by road. There has been no talk of a threat to the Prime Minister, nor has there been any attack. Suddenly people were sitting on the road.

No such thing as threat to PM: Channi

Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi said that it was the Prime Minister’s security squad that took the decision to go to Ferozepur by road. There was no such thing as a threat to the Prime Minister, nor was there any attack. Suddenly people came and sat on the road.
