The PMJDY became the bedrock on which Modi government launched a number of welfare schemes

Ahead of the 100-day anniversary of the third term of Modi Government on September 5, when the achievements will be publicised, Ministers were also told about nine priority areas, UPS and PM Awas Yojana and asked to list out the 10 big actions they took

At the marathon six-hour long Council of Ministers meeting earlier this week, Government ministers were briefed on 73 key decisions taken by the Narendra Modi government in nine priority areas in its third term so far, showcasing how it had hit the ground running. “We will work three times harder in my government’s third term. I advise all colleagues to work three times harder as a team,” the PM told the Ministers.

He added that the nearly six-hour long meeting may be somewhat long for the first-timers at the Council of Ministers meet as many ministers and secretaries were new. “You will get used to it,” the PM said. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said no target was unachievable for the government and the bar should be set high.

This was ahead of the 100-day anniversary of the third term of Modi Government on September 5, when the achievements will be publicised. The Unified Pension Scheme (UPS), expansion of the PM Awas Yojana with three crore more houses, and a host of infrastructure projects announced recently were cited as the big moves at this meeting, with the Prime Minister being in attendance. A total of 252 action points have been identified to implement the decisions.

Garib Kalyan, Yuva, Rozgar, Annadata, Nari Shakti and infrastructure were listed as the major priority areas for Modi 3.0. Every department has been asked to list out the 10 big actions taken by it, before September 5. Union Ministers Mansukh Mandaviya and Ram Mohan Naidu have been tasked to coordinate the exercise.

THE BIG DECISIONS

In a presentation made before the Prime Minister and other Union Ministers, the big decisions taken in Modi 3.0 were listed out. On top was the expansion of the PM Awas Yojana by the Union Cabinet right after the new government took oath, the notification of the rules to crack down on examination leaks, and the announcement by the PM from Red Fort to increase the medical seats in the country. The new internship scheme announced in the Budget was also listed as one “under implementation”, to provide internship to one crore youth in top 500 companies, with incentives for the employer and employees.

The release of the PM Kisan installment, increase in MSP for various crops, approval for the Polavaram project, the new agriculture infrastructure fund and efforts made for availability of urea at affordable prices were listed as major moves. The Lakhpati Didis scheme was mentioned as a big decision made for Nari Shakti.

Over 40 decisions made regarding the infrastructure sector were also part of the presentation made before the PM. However, it was impressed upon all to accelerate the spend under capital expenditure as only Rs 2.5 lakh crore has been spend so far in this financial year (FY) against the FY target of Rs 11 lakh crore. A number of rail projects, hydel projects, metro rail projects, the 12 new manufacturing clusters, eight high-speed road corridors and three new airports announced in the past three months were listed out.

The unveiling of deep-sea ports, roll out of the three new criminal laws and five new districts announced for Ladakh were also listed as big moves of the government in the first 100 days, apart from the decisions like BioE3 and Vigyan Dhara.
