mishra: Mayawati not to contest Assembly polls: Chandra Mishra | Lucknow News – Times of India

LUCKNOW Putting to rest all speculation, BSP general secretary and party MP Satish Chandra Mishra on Tuesday said that party chief Mayawati would not be contesting the upcoming assembly polls.
“She and I will both not be contesting assembly elections. BSP is contesting polls in three states, including UP, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Behenji will lead the cadre in these elections,” Mishra said.
Later, speaking to a private news channel, Mishra said that opposition parties seemed “worried” about Mayawati allegedly not contesting polls even though if that were actually the case, they should have felt happy. He says that BSP was the first to start off its campaign, when it held its first Prabuddh Varg sammelan in Ayodhya, when no other party was holding meetings.
Asked why Mayawati has been missing from active political campaigning till now, Mishra said that on July 23, when BSP started its prabuddha sammelan from Ayodhya, eventually covering all 75 districts, BSP was the first to launch its campaign.
“This was probably the first political rally and nobody had stepped out till then due to Coronavirus. We covered all 75 districts, holding big meetings which were attended by thousands of people.
The last of these meetings was held in Lucknow on September 7 which Behenji addressed and was attended by hundreds of people. On October 9, she addressed another rally in Lucknow, which was attended by 5 lakh people from all districts,” he said.
In the second phase of campaigning, Mishra said, the party held meetings in the reserved constituencies in 18 divisions and these meetings just ended.
Claiming that Mayawati was monitoring the party’s activities across the state, Mishra hit out at other parties saying that they had not yet named a single candidate while BSP had finalized over 300 names for the 403 seats. “These 300 candidates have also been holding meetings. ECI said do door to door campaigning but we have been doing it for several weeks already,” he said.
Mishra accused opposition parties of being scared and worried, saying that if it were true that Behenji was not stepping out this election, they should have been happy but they were in fact very worried. “Even BJP has not started its rallies. So far it has only held government programmes where they have inaugurated schemes which Mayawati has already inaugurated, like the Ganga Expressway and Jewar Airport. While other parties do politics of division, we do inclusive politics, and run our government on the concept of bhaichara,” he said.
