Minnal Murali Actor Mamukkoya Passes Away At 77

New Delhi: Malayalam actor Mammukoya passed away in a Kozhikode hospital on Wednesday. According to the hospital where he was receiving treatment, he died at 1.10 pm. The actor-comedian had a cardiac arrest and a brain hemorrhage when he passed out earlier this week on a football field. The actor was 77.

On Monday night, while he was participating in a football tournament-related event in the Malappuram district, this happened, and he immediately taken to the hospital.

The doctors had earlier in the day informed the renowned Mammukoya’s family that his condition was deteriorating and that his life was being supported by a ventilator.

Industry tracker Sreedhar Pillai took to Twitter to confirm the news of Mamukkoya’s demise. “Mamukkoya (77), one of the finest comedy actors ever in Malayalam cinema passed away. Who can forget this Kozhikode man, the epicentre of laughter in so many films?,” he tweeted.

In 1979, Mammukoya began acting in the theatre while he was also employed at a Kozhikode timber mill. He has received two state honours and has appeared in over 450 Malayalam films during the course of his long film career. His ability to speak in the Malabar dialect and his towering presence, which made audiences giddy with laughter the moment he opened his mouth. He continued to act by taking on comedic roles.

The actor appeared in several Malayalam films recently, including ‘Halal Love Story’, ‘Kuruthi’, and ‘Minnal Murali’. He starred in the Tamil film ‘Cobra’ last year, which also featured Vikram and had music by AR Rahman. Additionally, he had a role in the lone French movie Flammen im Paradies in 1997.
