Meta has reportedly been working on a premium Mixed Reality headset that was expected to compete directly with Apple Vision Pro but, it seems like there is a bad news for the people who were waiting for this product of Meta. Initially, as per reports, Meta was expected to launch it in 2027 with high resolution micro OLED screen that we see in Apple Vision Pro but it seems like Meta has stopped working on that project. According to a report by the Information, Meta has cancelled its plans of making its premium headset.
The Information, cited two Meta employees as saying that a product review meeting was held during which employees were told to stop working on the product.
Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth, in a post on Threads, said “We have many prototypes in development at all times. But we don’t bring all of them to production. We move forward with some, we pass on others. Decisions like this happen all the time, and stories based on chatter about one individual decision will never get the real picture.”

Meta Quest To Not Be Impacted?
Meta appears to be continuing its development of the Quest 4, which is anticipated to launch around 2026 with an estimated price of $500, or approximately Rs 40,000.
Meta’s Reality Labs, the division dedicated to the Quest series, has already incurred significant financial losses. Despite this, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg remains optimistic about the potential of augmented and virtual reality. Last year, Meta ceased production of the Quest Pro due to lackluster sales and unfavorable reviews.
Recently, reports suggested that Apple has halted work on the Vision Pro 2 following major challenges. The decision reportedly came after disappointing sales of the original Vision Pro, with Apple now focusing on a more affordable mixed reality headset.
