New Delhi: United Democratic Party (UDP) and People’s Democratic Front (PDF) extend their support to National People’s Party (NPP) to form the government in Meghalaya, news agency ANI reported.
According to news agency ANI, Metbah Lyngdoh, chief of UDP said their party has extended support to NPP to form the government.
“We (UDP and PDF) have extended our support to NPP,” ANI quoted Lyngdoh as saying.

It is to be noted that with the support of UDP and PDF, the numbers have gone up to 45.
Conrad Sangma, who will be sworn-in as the chief minister of the newly formed coalition government in Meghalaya on March 7, had said, “I have received a letter from Governor inviting me to form the government. The swearing-in ceremony will be on March 7 at 11 am in Raj Bhawan. We are expecting Prime Minister, Home Minister and other leaders to attend the ceremony.”
Notably, in the recently concluded Meghalaya Assembly elections, the NPP won 26 seats and the BJP got two. The Congress and Trinamool Congress won five seats each, while the UDP got 11 seats. The Voice of the People Party won four seats, People’s Democratic Front and Hill State People’s Democratic Party won two seats each, and two Independent candidates also won.
Earlier on Friday, Sangma had submitted his resignation letter as Meghalaya chief minister to Governor Phagu Chauhan and staked claim to form the new government in the northeast state.
Although Chauhan has accepted his resignation, the governor has urged Sangma to continue till alternative arrangements are made.
In the recently concluded state polls, Conrad Sangma won from the South Tura constituency with a margin of 5,016 votes against BJP candidate Bernard N Marak.
