Raised in a family of medical professionals, with a gynaecologist mother and an ENT specialist father, Dr Naresh Trehan’s early years were immersed in the medical world. Following enrollment at King George’s Medical College in Lucknow in 1963, he embarked on a journey to the USA in 1969.
There, he refined his skills as a resident at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. His return to India in 1988 marked the commencement of a distinguished career, holding key positions at Escorts Heart Institute and Research Center (EHIRC) and subsequently at Apollo Hospital in New Delhi.
In 2007, Dr Naresh Trehan established Medanta – The Medicity, one of Gurgaon, Haryana’s largest multi-speciality hospitals. His legacy includes performing over 48,000 open-heart surgeries at Medanta, solidifying his position as a foremost cardiovascular and cardiothoracic surgeon.
His noteworthy contributions have earned him prestigious awards, including the Padma Bhushan in 2001 and the Padma Shri in 1991.
