MCD Results 2022: Meet AAP’s Bobi Kinnar, Delhi’s First Transgender Councillor

MCD Election Results: The names of winners have started coming out for the Delhi MCD polls with both BJP and AAP giving a tough fight to each other.

Aam Aadmi Party’s Bobi Kinnar won from Delhi’s Sultanpuri-A ward by defeating Congress candidate Varuna Dhaka by 6,714 votes.

Bobi secured 14821 votes while Dhaka managed to get 8107 votes. Bobi is a transgender and her win significantly depicts the change in the societal mindset. She had earlier contested the civic body polls in 2017 as an independent candidate.

It was the first time when any party gave a ticket to a transgender. Bobi is the president of the Delhi unit of ‘Hindu Yuva Samaj Ekta Awam Anti-Terrorism Committee. She has been associated with the organisation for the last 15 years.

She has been an active social worker majorly working for transgenders’ empowerment.

Bobby Kinnar, who left a mark through social work in the ward, was found at the top of the survey and was declared a candidate for the municipal elections. Bobby contested the Municipal Corporation elections in the year 2017 as an independent candidate.

Talking to a media outlet before the elections, she had said, “If I become a councillor, I will work to end corruption. I will not allow officials to take bribes and will get public works done for free.”
