New Delhi: If the price of fuel continues to rise by 80 paise per day, it would cost Rs 275 per litre by November or December, when assembly elections in Gujarat and Himachal are due, according to Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday.
Yadav made the comment, referring to his forecast of likely future petrol costs as “the mathematics of inflation under BJP control,” news agency PTI reported.
Yadav made his comments in a Hindi tweet without specifying the states of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh, where assembly elections are expected to take place in November or December this year.
Taking to Twitter, SP Chief said, “People are saying if the petrol price keeps rising by 80 paise a day or Rs 24 a month at its present rate, it would rise by Rs 175 in the next seven months by November or December when next elections are likely.”

“It implies that the petrol selling at Rs 100 a litre now would be costing Rs 275 a litre then,” he said. “This is the mathematics of inflation under the BJP rule,” he added.
Prices In Metro Cities
- The price of petrol and diesel in Delhi is at Rs 102.61 per litre and Rs 93.87 per litre respectively today (increased by 80 paise).
- In Mumbai, the petrol and diesel prices per litre are at Rs 117.57 and Rs 101.79 (increased by 85 paise)
- In Kolkata, the price of petrol is Rs 112.19 (increased by 84 paise) and diesel is Rs 97.02 (increased by 80 paise).
- In Chennai, the petrol and diesel prices per litre at Rs 108.21 and Rs 108.21 (increased by 76 paise).
Notably, this is the tenth rise in fuel prices since the conclusion of a four-and-a-half-month rate revision break on March 22.
Petrol prices have risen by Rs 7.20 per litre in total.
Prices had previously been raised by 80 pence per litre, the largest single-day increase since the daily price review was implemented in June 2017.
