Maratha Quota Stir: A curfew has been imposed in Maharashtra’s Dharashiv district and Beed after the agitation turned violent

As the violence erupted and escalated in parts of Maharashtra over the Maratha Quota demand, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday met Governer Ramesh Bais and briefed him about the situation and what security measures are being taken to curb the violence.

The chief minister also assured Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange-Patil that his government was committed to ensuring reservation for the Maratha community and asked him to appeal for peace in the state.

A curfew has been imposed in Maharashtra’s Dharashiv district and Beed after the agitation turned violent and protesters indulged in arson and vandalism to target the residences of two NCP MLAs and a municipal council building.

Meanwhile, the state government has identified 50 to 55 people involved in the violent incidents in the last few days.

  • Bus services in 5 districts- Parbhani, Dharashiv, Latur, Jalna and Nanded districts have been suspended completely for the next 3-4 days.

  • Shinde also called activist Manoj Jarange over the phone and assured a concrete decision on reservation for the Maratha community during the state cabinet’s meeting to be held later in the day.
