Man slits wife’s throat, kills 2 kids, hangs self | Nagpur News – Times of India

Nagpur: Madan Agrawal, 40, hanged himself to death after allegedly killing his wife Kiran (32), son Vrushab (10) and daughter Tiya (5) at their rented apartment at Dayanand Park in Jaripatka. The four bodies were spotted at the gory crime scene on Tuesday.
Agrawal, who ran a popular Chinese food joint near Children’s Park, was in debt running into lakhs of rupees. Police feel Agrawal committed the three murders and then hanged himself on Monday evening.
Earlier in the day, Agrawal had asked his elder brother for Rs 1,500 for some emergency work but cops aren’t sure about the reason.
Though the police are probing the motive behind the gory crime, they have learnt about Agrawal’s debts to the tune of Rs 70-80 lakh.
It’s also learnt that Agrawal was addicted to cricket betting and gambling in which he likely to have suffered losses. His food cart was being frequented by the ‘sardar gang’ and a hardened goon Arif for recovery, it’s learnt.
Cops are trying to get clues from Agrawal’s cellphone as no suicide note was found.
Any other motive behind the murders, including an illicit relationship, is also not being ruled out.
Police said prima facie the mother had tried to save the children as she had numerous cut marks on her hands indicating a fight with her husband who was armed with a knife.
Agrawal is likely to have used his vegetable cutting knife to kill his family after a heated argument with his wife triggered the stabbing spree. His daughter Tiya was in the first standard while son Vrushab was a student of standard VI.
Police said Kiran was pinned on the bed before her throat was slit. Agrawal is likely to have stabbed his children several times in a fit of rage.
The two children had several stab injuries while his wife’s neck was slit. Agrawal had covered the corpses of his wife and children before hanging himself from the ceiling fan.
Sources close to Agrawal said he had a love marriage with Kiran in 2009. Agrawal, who earlier lived in Wardhaman Nagar, had shifted to Dayanand Park a few years ago. Agrawal had started staying at his own house but it was later mortgaged. The bank had taken possession of his property.
A few months ago, Agrawal had shifted to a rented apartment in the vicinity. Police said Agrawal had kept his cart closed on Monday. Neighbours recalled seeing the family at 7pm. They said they heard no shouts or screams from the Agrawal residence.
Police said the bodies were found after a cable TV man and an online delivery boy started enquiring with the neighbours as Agrawal was not responding to their calls or knocks at the door. After a neighbour jumped inside Agrawal’s house and peeped through the window, he was shocked to see the bodies.
Jaripatka police have registered a case of murder.
