Eastern Zonal Counseling meeting has been held in Kolkata’s Howrah on Saturday. During this, Mamta Banerjee’s BSF officers debated in front of Home Minister Amit Shah.

There was an argument between West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and BSF officers in Kolkata on Saturday. According to media reports, Home Minister Amit Shah was also present during this period. This incident took place during the Eastern Zonal Counseling meeting in Howrah. Mamta is angry with giving BSF the right to act up to 50 kilometers inside the border.

Under the new law, the central government has empowered the BSF to take action in an area up to 50 kilometers from the International Border. There will be no need for a magistrate’s order or warrant for this. Earlier, it could take action up to 15 km inside. Mamta is constantly opposing this change in the law.

Mamta said – people are facing problems due to this
Mamta Banerjee says that due to the increase in the jurisdiction of BSF on the border, the residential people are facing problems. BSF has more power. Due to this, there is no mutual coordination between the general public and the officers.

Mamta had accused BSF of killing the villagers
Mamta said in May 2022 that BSF men are entering villages and killing people and throwing them on the other side, in Bangladesh. BSF should not be allowed to do all this. Raising questions on the work of BSF in the state, he said that the BSF, which comes under the central government, smuggles cows across the International Border and kills people and throws their bodies in Bangladesh, but blames it on the Bengal Police. comes That’s why I have asked the state police to stop BSF.

BSF’s jurisdiction was extended in October 2021
In October last year, by amending the BSF Act, the Union Home Ministry extended the jurisdiction of the Border Security Force (BSF) along the international border of Pakistan and Bangladesh. After this, BSF officers were allowed to search, arrest and seize up to 50 kilometers from the country’s border in West Bengal, Punjab and Assam.

Punjab, Bengal opposed the decision
This decision created a political controversy in Punjab. In Punjab, the local police used to assist BSF in any action. The Congress and the Akali Dal vehemently opposed it. The then Chief Minister of Punjab, Charanjit Singh Channi called it an attack on the authority of the state.

The impact of the central government’s decision on 12 states
Based on the provisions under Section 139 (1) of the BSF Act 1968, the decision of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs is applicable to the 12 States of Gujarat, Punjab, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya, Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and Lying on Ladakh.

Of these, only three states Assam, West Bengal and Punjab are such, where the jurisdiction of BSF has increased much more than before. In these states, earlier BSF could take action up to 15 kilometers inside the border. Now she will be able to take action up to 50 kilometers without any order or warrant from the magistrate.

Like Punjab, Bengal too has consistently opposed this decision. In December, the West Bengal Assembly passed a resolution against expanding the jurisdiction of the BSF.
