Mamta Banerjee appealed to the CJI to save democracy: Said – our reputation is our honor, if it is looted then everything will end

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed concern over the deteriorating democratic institutions in the country. He appealed to Chief Justice (CJI) UU Lalit on Sunday to save democracy. Mamta said that if this trend continues, then the country will move towards President’s rule.

In fact, Mamta arrived as the chief guest at the convocation ceremony of National Forensic Science University (NUJS) located in Kolkata on Sunday. Justice Lalit was also present in the program. He is the chancellor of the university. In her address, Mamta said that a section of the society is confiscating all democratic powers. He told the CJI- where is the democracy? Please save democracy.

Mamta’s attack on the media
Mamta also took a dig at the media being biased. He said- Can they abuse anyone? Can they blame anyone? Sir, our reputation is our honour. If respect is robbed, then everything will end. He further said that many things were already going on before the verdict came. I am sorry to say this. If you think I’m wrong, I apologise.

Mamta appreciates NUJS
Mamata described NUJS as one of the most important institutions in the world and appreciated CJI Lalit for the role played by the institute. Congratulating Justice Lalit, she said that I do not know whether I am using this platform properly or not, but in two months she has shown what the judiciary means.

let the judiciary hear the cries of the people
Mamta said- I am not saying that people have lost faith in the judiciary, but nowadays the situation has gone from bad to worse. The judiciary should save the people from injustice and listen to their cries. Right now people are crying behind closed doors.

CJI Lalit retiring on November 8
Chief Justice of India (CJI) Uday Umesh Lalit CJI is set to retire on November 8. He was sworn in as the Chief Justice on August 26, 2022. His tenure as CJI will be only 74 days. Justice DY Chandrachud will be the new CJI after Justice Lalit. He will take oath as CJI on November 9.
