Mamata talks about prosperity in Darjeeling hills during her 4-day North Bengal tour

While speaking at GTA members’ oath taking program in Darjeeling, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee proposed three new satellite towns in the hills which will include an industrial hub, shops, home stays, restaurants among others.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday announced that the state government will set up a new city in Darjeeling. Proposing a slew of projects in the hills, Mamata said, ” New city means a new industrial hub, shopping malls, home stay, restaurants spread across 200 acres of land. A new city is being planned for Kalimpong. Even in Kurseong,” she said.

She added “We will be making hill university and a new presidency university here. We have also started a ropeway in Kurseong for tourism. We have also pushed for horticulture. You have a lot of potential for tourism, education and other sectors. We have to work for this. We want to start the Tea Sundari project here. I request the chief secretary to amend the rules for tea gardens. We can allow homestays inside tea gardens,” she said.

Darjeeling Kurseong and Kalimpong are ideal for the IT industry. If you vouch for peace here, I can request IT industry people to set up an industry here, she further added.

MAMATA ADDRESSES DRINKING WATER ISSUE

While speaking at GTA members’ oath taking program in Darjeeling, Mamata also addressed the long-standing drinking water problem in Darjeeling. “We will give drinking water to every household within 2024. It is so painful that this region receives so much rainfall, but still there is drinking water crisis. You can use water from streams as they are full of water.

Mamata even amplified it by saying that “Darjeeling women have beautiful hair as they have silk water. Please identify 10 to 12 streams for clean drinking water and plan for packaged drinking water, she said. Mamata Banerjee is on a four-day North Bengal tour where she will be participating in different programs.
