Malayalam cinema’s beloved couple, superstar Mohanlal and his wife Suchitra, have a heartwarming love story that traces back to the pivotal role played by PV Gangadharan. This well-known Malayalam film producer and director, affiliated with the Mathrubhumi group of publications, sadly passed away in Kozhikode, Kerala, on October 13 at the age of 80 due to age-related ailments. It was Gangadharan who played a crucial part in uniting Mohanlal and Suchitra, following a conversation with Suchitra’s father, Balaji Mohan. When Balaji Mohan confided in his friend Gangadharan about his daughter’s wish to marry Mohanlal, it set the wheels in motion for a memorable meeting between the two stars, which occurred during the Pennukanal function hosted at Gangadharan’s home.
Although their wedding proposal was initially cancelled because their horoscopes didn’t match, they later had a grand ceremony and officially tied the wedding knot two years later.
In an old interview, Mohanlal stated, “I got married in 1988. Even two years before that, Suchi’s proposal had been put forward. Although her family was based in Chennai, they had strong ties to Kozhikode. Her grandparents and aunts still reside there. Initially, the wedding proposal was rejected as the horoscopes didn’t match. Consequently, we abandoned the idea and continued with our individual lives”.
Mohanlal mentioned that both families completely forgot about the proposal until two years later when the topic of his wedding resurfaced during his stay at a friend’s house in Kozhikode.
The actor revealed that it was at that moment he discovered that someone had mistakenly deemed their horoscopes incompatible. He also mentioned that he learned that Suchitra had patiently waited for him for the past two years, even though she was aware that their horoscopes were not a match.
On the work front, Mohanlal is all geared up to star in a slew of upcoming projects including Barroz, Ram, Vrushabha, Drishyam 3, Ajayante Randam Moshanam, Neru, and Kannappa to name a few. Meanwhile, PV Gangadharan is best known for Veendum Chila Veettukaryangal, A Northern Story of Valor, and Ahimsa.
