Maharashtra: Toddy shop owner held for death of two Dombivli youths who died due to excess consumption | Thane News – Times of India

KALYAN: The Vishnu Nagar Police in Dombivli, probing the death of two youths due to overconsumption of toddy, on Wednesday arrested shopkeeper Ravi Bhatni from Navi Mumbai.
After arresting Bhatni, the police produced him before Kalyan sessions court which remanded him to police custody till January 15.
Two deceased, Swapnil Cholake, a warden in the Dombivli traffic unit and his friend Sachin Padmukh, both died on Monday night due to alleged over-consumption of toddy in the Kopar area in Dombivli. After their death, the Vishnu Nagar Police on the complaint of their relative booked Bhatni and subsequently arrested him.
Pandarinath Bhalerao, senior police inspector of Vishnu Nagar police station said, “The shopkeeper, despite knowing the harmful impact of excessive consumption of toddy, to make his profit served excess toddy to the deceased duo due to which we arrested him by registering an FIR under section 304 (negligence causing death) of the Indian Penal Code.”
