Maharashtra Sees 186% Rise In Daily Covid Cases, Records 711 Infections

Maharashtra saw a 186 per cent spike in Covid cases on Tuesday, with 711 fresh infections recorded in the past 24 hours, according to the latest bulletin by the health department. The active caseload now stands at 3,792 in the state.

On Monday, Maharashtra logged only 248 cases. This is likely due to fewer people going for testing in the weekend. On Sunday, Maharashtra reported 562 new Covid-19 cases.

Four Covid-related deaths (Satara-2, Pune-1, Ratnagiri – 1) were also recorded in the past 24 hours. The case fatality rate in the state is currently 1.82 per cent.

Earlier in the day, Maharashtra Health Minister Tanaji Sawant said there was no need to panic as the situation was being monitored continuously. Sawant informed that the state would be conducting a mock drill on April 13-14.

“It’s true that Covid numbers are increasing but it’s not affecting much as it’s a very mild variant which is prevalent in the state. No need to panic at all but everyone should take precautions while going to crowded places,” ANI quoted Sawant as saying.

“I have talked to all the Covid hospitals and can update you that no patient is on ventilator or oxygen support in Maharashtra. It’s very satisfactory that patients are recovering only in 48-72 hours. So nothing to worry much about because Prevalent XBB.1.16 is not as lethal as Delta variant was in second wave of Covid,” the minister said.

The Satara district administration has already made wearing of mask compulsory for employees and officials working in government and semi-government offices, colleges, and banks.
