Maharashtra: After relief to Mumbaikars, Shiv Sena, MNS demand property tax waiver on houses upto 500 sq ft in Kalyan-Dombivli, Ulhasnagar | Thane News – Times of India

KALYAN: After chief minister Uddhav Thackeray announced the decision to waive property tax on houses measuring up to 500 square feet within the limits of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Shiv Sena leader Dipesh Mhatre from Dombivli town of Thane district has demanded him to give a similar relief to citizens in the twin-cities of Kalyan-Dombivli.
Mhatre wrote a letter to CM Uddhav Thackeray stating his demand. “It’s my humble request to extend similar tax waiver benefits to Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation which will provide much-needed relief to the middle and low-income group who are the worst affected section due to the Covid-19 pandemic,” appealed Mhatre, former standing committee chairman, in his letter to Thackeray.
The social activist from the city also told the state government that KDMC charges the highest 71.5 per cent property tax from citizens and if they give relief to houses measuring 500 square feet, then it will benefit citizens of low-income groups.
‘If he is the CM of entire state, he should waive property tax upto 500 sq ft for Ulhasnagar as well’
The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena leaders in Ulhasnagar have also demanded that CM Thackeray waive off property tax for all houses in the city measuring up to 500 sq ft.
MNS Ulhasnagar city president Bandu Deshmukh said that just like Mumbaikars, similar benefits should be given to citizens residing in Ulhasnagar Municipal corporation limits.
Deshmukh told TOI, “Earlier, some Shiv Sena leaders used to criticise Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying he is the PM of Gujarat state only, but now by announcing the benefit only for houses in Mumbai chief minister Uddhav Thackeray is doing the same thing. If he thinks he is the chief minister of the entire state, then he should announce similar reliefs for citizens of the whole of Maharashtra, including our Ulhasnagar city.”
