Ludhiana court sentences five accused in Issewal’s gangrape case to life imprisonment | Ludhiana News – Times of India

LUDHIANA: A local court on Friday sentenced five convicts in Issewal gangrape case to life imprisonment. The juvenile was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment in the case.
The court of additional sessions judge Rashmi Sharma also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh each on the five major convicts and Rs.50,000 on the juvenile.
On 9 February 2019, a group of miscreants had allegedly gang-raped a 20-year-old student after holding her and her friend hostage as they had gone to Issewal area to celebrate chocolate day.
Police had booked ten unidentified accused in the case and arrested six accused including Jagroop Singh, a private vehicle driver of Jaspal Bangar, Ajay of Tibba who originally belonged to Gonda in Uttar Pradesh and works as a driver at the petrol pump and four nomads (two from Ludhiana and one from Nawanshahar) including a juvenile from Jammu and Kashmir.
Special public prosecutor for the state in the case, BD Gupta said that the accused were convicted in the case on February 28, and on Friday the court had to pronounce the quantum of sentence. He added that from the state they had sought severe punishment so that culprits fear the law.
