Lawyer pressured to take up the case of sexual abuse of women! CID directs investigation

Two men were accused of sexually harassing a woman in Kasba. It is alleged that the woman’s lawyer was pressured by a police officer to drop the case. The Calcutta High Court directed a CID probe into the incident. Calcutta High Court Judge Vivek Chowdhury has directed the CID DIG to decide which CID officer will investigate the incident. At the same time, the High Court has ordered the arrest of two accused.

According to the statement of the case, the woman is a resident of Patuli. He had lodged a complaint of sexual harassment against two persons at Kasba police station. After the woman lodged the complaint, the two men applied for anticipatory bail in the lower court. The lower court granted them anticipatory bail. Allegedly, after getting bail in advance, they sexually abused the woman again. He then appealed to the Calcutta High Court as there was no action to be taken against the police. At the same time, the woman filed another case with Anandapur police station. The woman’s lawyer filed a bail application in the Calcutta High Court.

During the trial, the woman’s lawyer complained to the judge that she was being pressured by a Barasat police officer to drop the case. He told the court that besides the district police, he had also lodged a complaint with the chief minister’s secretariat. Complaining of police inaction, the lawyer said that if the police had properly investigated the incident, the accused would not have dared to sexually abuse the woman for the second time. After hearing all this, a judge of the Calcutta High Court directed a CID inquiry into the incident. The DIG of CID will appoint the investigating officer as directed by the High Court. The judge directed the Kasba and Anandapur police to hand over the case diary to the CID.
