Land records at farmers’ doorstep in Udupi | Mangaluru News – Times of India

Udupi: In a bid to save farmers from having to endure the bureaucratic ordeal of having to run from pillar to post to obtain a host of documents, the Udupi district administration has decided to distribute up to 6.6 lakh rights, tenancy and crops (RTC), 13.1 lakh caste, and eight lakh income certificates, among others, at the peasants’ doorstep. Udupi deputy commissioner M Kuruma Rao on Friday said that the responsibility of ensuring that the farmers received these documents had been entrusted to the specific village panchayat (GP) in the district.
“Those who have registered themselves under the ‘Farmer Registration and United Beneficiary Information System (FRUITS)’ will receive these documents at their homes. The farmers are spread across 267 villages in Udupi, and the initiative to deliver the necessary certificates will get under way from Saturday. A programme is being held in the district at Thenkanidiyoor as part of this state-wide initiative. Programmes have also been arranged at the taluk offices wherein MLAs, tahsildars and officials in the local administration will be in attendance. A six-day drive will be held to cover all villages from March 21 and 26,” Kuruma Rao said.
Furthermore, farmers would have the opportunity to rectify errors in the documents by visiting the offices in their respective villages, the DC added. “The government had requested, in 2021, farmers to submit copies of documents including Aadhaar cards, ration cards, survey records, in addition to furnishing details of their bank accounts. Village accountants and officials at the Raitha Samparka Kendras have collected information by making door-to-door visits as part of a special drive held in October last year,” he said.
