In a historic moment, Pu Lalduhoma, the chief of the Zoram People’s Movement, was sworn in as the sixth chief minster of Mizoram at Raj Bhawan in state capital Aizawl on Friday. The oath was administered by governor Hari Babu Kambhampati. Along with the chief minister, seven cabinet ministers and four ministers of state were also sworn in.

The seven cabinet ministers who took oath are Lalthansanga, K Sapdanga, Vanlalhlana, C Lalsawivunga, PC Vanlalruata, F Rodingliana and Lalrinpuii. The four ministers of state are F Rodingliana, B Lalchhanzova, Prof Lalnilawma and Lalnghinglova Hmar. All are first-timers in politics.

The ceremony was also attended by the former CMs — Lal Thanhawla and Zoramthanga.

Lalduhoma said the new government’s priority will be to uplift farmers, improve the financial status of the state and end corruption by all means. He said even before the oath-taking ceremony happened, after his party’s win, he had already raised these issues before the central government.

Asked about being a part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), the new CM said there will be no possible post-poll alliance but the state government will work in coordination with the Centre.

From being the principal assistant to the first CM of the state (1972-1977) to getting the top job himself, Lalduhoma’s journey is being appreciated by the people.
