Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge addressed the ‘Jai Bharat Satyagraha Sabha’ in Mancherial, Telangana on Friday.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday said it was because of the Congress party that a humble person like him could have a long political career and become an MLA and MP several times. Sonia Gandhi gave him the opportunity to serve as the President of the Congress, which is a huge responsibility. Kharge said this at ‘Jai Bharat Satyagraha Sabha’ on Friday night in Mancherial, Telangana.

Rahul disqualified, but not BJP MP
Hitting out at the BJP government, he claimed that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was served a notice within 24 hours of his conviction in a 2019 defamation case. He was disqualified from the Lok Sabha. A BJP MP from Gujarat was not disqualified despite being convicted in a criminal case. However, Kharge did not name the MP.

Kharge addressed the ‘Jai Bharat Satyagraha Sabha’ at Mancherial, during which several Congress workers were present.

Narendra Modi and BRS government targeted
Kharge accused the Narendra Modi-led government of weakening the public sector. He said that even the promise of providing crores of jobs was not fulfilled. At the same time, the BRS government in Telangana was also targeted. He said that many promises were made to Dalit families, including giving three acres of land, which were not fulfilled.

Women got voting rights because of Ambedkar
On the birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar, Kharge appreciated his contribution. He said that Dalits and women got the right to vote only because of the maker of the Constitution.

Kharge became AICC president after being elected party chief in October 2022
Kharge took over as AICC president after being elected party chief in October last year, where he was pitted against Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor. Kharge is the first non-Gandhi president of the party in 24 years. He was handed over the certificate of victory by returning officer Madhusudan Mistry in the presence of Sonia, Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra at the AICC headquarters in Delhi.
