KHARAGPUR: After the construction of Giri Maidan flyover in Kharagpur under Paschim Medinipur district, people are angry about the rail gates. Citing the bridge, the railway administration has closed the Arora gate, while the purchased gate can be closed anytime. Protesting against this, on Saturday, the public staged a sit-in protest at the Khuya Gate.
Today, the citizens of Kharagpur staged a sit-in at the Kharida railway gate regarding this demand. .This protest meeting was organized today in the presence of common people. In which bought market, gate market, shopkeepers were present. Discussed to take this fight forward in the coming days. Everyone put forth their views and thanked the Railways for the construction of the Giri Maidan flyover. But they expressed anger against the Railways for the sudden closure of the Giri Maidan crossing and the plan to close the Kharida crossing.

The shopkeepers of Kharida market said that railways is the property of the state, railways should take care of the speed of trains and common people should not be disturbed, if people die of hunger then railways should also see it. Shopkeepers were also present in this meeting along with common people. On the way also people supported this movement by being present. Many others including prominent socialist leader of Kharagpur Anil Das were present.
The following demands were mainly made in the protest.
- Giri Maidan rail gate should be opened,
- Bought rail gate should not be closed,
- The work of Nagar police station flyover should be completed soon.
- Counter number 2 of Girmaidan station should be kept open all the time.
