Kerala: KPCC working president PT Thomas passes away at 70 | Thiruvananthapuram News – Times of India

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Senior Congress leader and Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) working president, P T Thomas (70), died at a hospital in Vellore in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday morning.
Thomas was undergoing treatment for cancer for the past few months.
Thomas had previously represented the Idukki parliamentary constituency from 2009 to 2014. He represented Thodapuzha assembly constituency in the state legislature from 1991 to 1996, and 2001 to 2006. He represented the Thirkkakara constituency in 2016 and 2021.
He had also served as the editor and managing director of Veekshanam, the party mouthpiece.
He was made the president of the KPCC in the recent revamp of the party.
He was born in Idukki in 1950 and had education at Mar Ivanious College in Thiruvananthapuram, Maharajas College, Ernakulam and Government Law College, Ernakulam.
He began his political career through KSU and had served as unit vice president of KSU in his earlier days. Later he became KSU district secretary of Idukki, state general secretary and state president of the KSU. In 1980 he became the general secretary of the Youth Congress and has been a member of the KPCC since 1980.
He tasted defeat in the assembly election in 1996 and 2006 in Thodupuzha.
In 2007, he was made the district Congress president of Idukki.
Thomas is survived by wife Uma Thomas and children Vishnu Thomas and Vivek Thomas.
