Jammu and Kashmir Police has started installing CCTV cameras at Lakhanpur, the entry point of Kathua in view of the Amarnath Yatra. The police have also asked shop and hotel owners on the Kathua-Jammu highway to install their CCTV cameras on the road side.

The Amarnath pilgrimage to the 3880 meter high cave in South Kashmir will begin from July 1 and continue till August 31. The journey is scheduled for Pahalgam and Baltal.

To enhance the security arrangements for the Amarnath pilgrimage, more than 60 thousand security personnel of para-military forces will be deployed. They will be deployed from Lakhanpur to Amarnath holy cave shrine during the 62-day long yatra.

Apart from the passengers, 2900 ponies, pitthu and palanquin drivers have also got registered. Which will take the pilgrims from the base camp to the cave. So far, 125 pony drivers, 1,046 pittu drivers and 1,733 palki drivers have been registered.

  • The route from Baltal to Amarnath cave is a difficult and steep climb.
  • Despite this, if you want to return quickly after visiting, then this way is the best.
