Chennai: Congress MP Karti Chidambaram on Friday wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla about an alleged “gross breach of Parliamentary Privilege by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)” during the search by the probe agency. The Congress MP said that his Parliamentary Committee papers that pertain to IT Committee were seized during the search but no one has the right to take them.
Talking to ANI, Karti Chidambaram said, “I’ve written to Lok Sabha Speaker that there has been a gross breach of Parliamentary Privilege by the CBI.”
“My parliamentary committee papers that pertain to IT Committee have been taken during search. No one has the right to take these confidential papers,” he said.
On Friday, the MP in his letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker said that he and his family have become targets of a campaign by the Central government and its probe agency and they have been attempting to silence their voices.

Hence, the targeted intimidation of an MP amounts to a breach of privilege, he said.
Further, the Minister in the letter also said, “In the course of the raid, certain officers of CBI seized my highly confidential and sensitive personal notes and papers pertaining to the Parliamentary Standing Committee for Information and Technology, of which I am a Member.”

Therefore, he requested the Speaker to take cognizance of the issue and breach of his Parliamentary privilege.
Meanwhile, the residence and properties of Karti Chidambaram were raided in connection with alleged visa scam case where Karti reportedly received Rs 50 lakh to facilitate 250 visas for Chinese workers who wanted to work in Talwandi Sabo Power Limited in 2011.
