Karnataka: Chikkaballapur villages jolted by quake for third time in two days | Mysuru News – Times of India

CHIKKABALLAPUR: Villages in Mandikal gram panchyat of Chikkaballapur taluk experienced a mild earthquake for the second day on Thursday.
The tremors measuring 3.6 on the Richter Scale were experienced by many villages, including Sadhenahalli, Peresandra and Gollahalli. The affected areas are located along Bengaluru-Hyderabad national highway.
The earthquake occurred at 2.16pm with its epicentre 1.2km southeast of Sadenahalli and 18km deep, Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) said.
KSNDMC described the earthquake as one of moderate intensity, unlike the two low-intensity temblors that had rocked the taluk a day earlier.
On Wednesday, an earthquake measuring 2.9 on the Richter Scale had rocked the villages of Mandikal gram panchayat at 7.10am. Four minutes later, a second one, measuring 3 on the scale, jolted villages of adjacent Addagallu gram panchayat.
Ganapathi Sastry, tahsildar, Chikkaballapur, said though no major damage was reported, some houses developed cracks on their walls.
The third earthquake in two days was experienced by villages in a radius of 10km. The tremors were felt in Sadhenahalli, Peresandra and Beeraganahalli as also some villages that were affected on Wednesday, he said.
