Kalki 2898 AD: Amitabh Bachchan’s First Look From Prabhas Starrer Out On His Birthday

New Delhi: The makers of Amitabh Bachchan’s upcoming film ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ have released a first-look poster of the megastar to mark his birthday on Wednesday. The pan-India sci-fi film, which was earlier called Project K, has been directed by Nag Ashwin and also stars Prabhas, Kamal Haasan and Deepika Padukone in the lead roles.

The poster shows Amitabh Bachchan standing in a cave– with sunshine falling on him. The actor’s face is covered and only his eyes are visible. He can be seen sporting a long beard and wearing a kurta, dhoti and a shawl.

“It’s an honor to be part of your journey and witness your greatness. Happy Birthday @SrBachchan sir 🙏 – Team #Kalki2898AD,” the official handle of Vyjayanthi Movies posted on social media.

According to makers, ‘Kalki 2898-AD’ promises to transport audiences to a world never seen before in Indian cinema. The film’s premise, set in the distant future of 2898 AD, seamlessly blends futuristic elements with rich storytelling, offering an unparalleled and immersive cinematic experience.

The film was announced under the working title ‘Project K’ in February 2020 coinciding with the 50th anniversary of Vyjayanthi Movies. However, the production was delayed by a year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Filming began in July 2021 in a futuristic set at Ramoji Film City, in Hyderabad.

The film is reportedly made on a budget of Rs 600 crore.

The first look of ‘Kalki2989AD’ was unveiled at the San Diego Comic-Con. Amitabh Bachchan had skipped the ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ panel at San Diego’s Comic-Con. He shared that filmmaker Nag Ashwin wanted him to come along but “work and medical restrictions have kept me away.”

Amitabh took to his blog and wrote: “Alright ..  so .. San Diego and K , the project .. a great moment for the film and the makers and all those that went there for the release of the first look for it .. I was pushed hard by Nagi Sir to come along, but work and medical restrictions have kept me away from many such occasions.”

“So .. but I must admit that the first look was pretty darn good .. wasn’t it .. style, music, frames .. everything …. and finally the reveal of K .. KALKI .. mythologically so important .. 2898 AD  !! ‘AD’ has been changed has it not,” he wrote.

The film is scheduled to be released on January 12, 2024 in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and English languages.
