Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said Jammu & Kashmir had seen a massive decline in terror cases, following the abrogation of Article 370 that granted it a special status category. He added that a large number of tourists are visiting the Union Territory now, reported news agency PTI.
Shah was addressing a gathering in Haryana’s Karnal district to present the President’s Colour to the Haryana Police for their contributions and exceptional services. The President’s Colour Award, or ‘Nishaan’, is the highest honour bestowed upon any military unit in India.
While speaking at the event, he claimed that the BJP government at the Centre had resolved several challenges pertaining to internal security.
Shah was talking about terror activities in Jammu and Kashmir, insurgency in the Northeast, and extremism allegedly associated with the Left for the past eight years, since the BJP came to power at the centre. Shah remarked, “Under the leadership of the Prime Minister, the Home department is tackling several internal security challenges effectively. Jammu and Kashmir, the North East and Left Wing Extremism, the pain of which the country suffered for many decades.”

Home Minister Amit Shah said, “Today I can say with satisfaction that after the abrogation of Article 370, there is a big reduction in terror incidents in Jammu and Kashmir. And a record number of tourists visit Jammu and Kashmir. It is a matter of satisfaction.”

He further said that the BJP government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi will introduce more amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code, the Indian Penal Code, and the Evidence Act. These will ensure a compulsory forensic investigation for all crimes that can legally result in punishment for at least six years or more. “We are bringing changes in the CrPC, the IPC and the Evidence Act in which the offences entailing six years or more of punishment, forensic science (experts) visit will be made compulsory,” Shah was quoted as saying by PTI.
During the event, the Home Minister presented the President’s Colour to officers on behalf of President Draupadi Murmu. The event was organised by the Haryana Police Academy in Karnal’s Madhuban.

Military, paramilitary and police units are awarded the President’s Colour, which is a special flag. It is given in recognition of exceptional service to the nation. Officers can wear the flag replica as an insignia.
While speaking at the event, Shah praised the Modi government for achieving huge success in controlling and stopping terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, as cited by PTI.
He added that over 8,000 armed youths, who were part of multiple insurgency groups earlier, surrendered to the police. Later, they were all brought to the mainstream.
According to the PTI report, Shah said that the Northeast is currently a peaceful region and a new atmosphere for development and confidence has been created in that part of the country. Commenting on alleged Left Wing Extremism (LWE), he claimed the number of districts reporting cases related to extremism came down from 96 to 46 in the year 2021.
Under this category of these kinds of violence, there is a decline of 70 percent in North East regions, said Shah, as cited by PTI.
The Union Minister said, “It shows that the country will completely overcome the problem of Left Wing extremism in very less time.”
Other dignitaries who were present at the event included Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Home Minister Anil Vij, and Assembly Speaker Gian Chand Gupta.
