Jharkhands: After three decades, police captured Buddha mountain, Maoists had built their stronghold

The old mountain, which has been a stronghold of Maoists for the last three decades, has now been freed from the Maoists’ possession. Jharkhand Police made this claim. Budha Pahar is situated on the border of Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.

According to a statement issued by the police, Director General of Police (DGP) Neeraj Sinha along with his team on Sunday reached the hill which had become a safe haven of top Maoist leaders for many years.

The statement further said that the security forces had been trying to gain control of the area for many years. But he suffered many losses during the operation. The Maoists had planted IEDs on all roads leading to the hill.

It further said that the Operation Octopus operation, which was being carried out by the security forces for the last one year, finally proved effective and the hill is now free from Maoists.

Under Operation Octopus, several bunkers and landmines of Maoists were captured on September 4-5 this month and a huge amount of explosive material including bullets was seized, police said.

DGP Sinha interacted with the villagers on Sunday. He assured the villagers that they are now free from the fear of Maoists and they will be provided full security. The DGP also distributed daily necessities among the villagers.

The statement said that after gaining control of the hill, now the camps of the security forces will be set up here. Construction of hospitals, schools, roads and other basic facilities will also be started for the villagers of this area.
